The six villages

Pick the right side of Dennis

Dennis is really six small villages spread across both shores — bay on the north, Nantucket Sound on the south. Each one has its own pace. Here's how to choose.

South shore

Dennis Port and West Dennis

The sound side is where most families land — warmer water, longer beaches, and the classic Cape summer strip you remember from childhood.

Dennis Port

Mini golf, clam shacks, and small motels — kid-friendly and unfussy.

West Dennis Beach

Long, flat, sound-side stretch — wide open for kite-flying and easy walks.

Warmer water

Sound-side beaches run a few degrees warmer than the bay side most of the summer.

East Dennis and Dennis Village

The bay side is quieter — older Cape houses, gallery row along Route 6A, and tide flats that go out a quarter mile at low tide.

Dennis Village

Gallery row, the Cape Playhouse, and the original village center along 6A.

East Dennis

Sesuit Harbor, Crowes Pasture, and quieter bay beaches with big tide swings.

Slower pace

Fewer crowds than the south side — better if you want quiet mornings and gallery walks.

Scargo Lake and Scargo Tower

Halfway between the two shores sits a freshwater kettle pond and a small stone tower. Climb it once and you can see both coasts of the Cape at the same time.

Scargo Lake

Freshwater swimming with a small beach — good backup on windy ocean days.

Scargo Tower

Short walk up; on a clear day you can see Provincetown to the north.

Easy to reach

Five minutes from either shore — a good first stop to get your bearings.
Three Dennis Homes

Bay-Side And Sound-Side, Walk To Beach

Three single-family homes across Dennis's villages — pick the bay for calm mornings or the sound for warm afternoon swims, both within walking distance.

Time The Beach Right

Dennis sits on two shores, so the right spot depends on the clock. Here's how locals plan the day.

Mayflower At Low Tide

When the bay pulls back, the flats stretch nearly a mile. Walk out, find sand dollars, watch kids chase minnows in warm pools.

Scargo Tower At Sunset

Climb the stone tower above Scargo Lake about an hour before dusk. On clear nights you can see north to the tip of the Cape.
